Thursday Evening Sessions 10 Ocober

Location/time: Tahunanui by the skateboard half-pipe. 6.00 for 6.30pm. Be prepared to get wet and dress accordingly as even accidental capsizes do happen in training.

Session theme: Advanced paddle strokes

Specific focus: Brush-up or learn a few different paddle strokes to get you around in your kayak. Sweep strokes, draw strokes, stern rudder and more

MANGARAKAU – Westhaven 17-21 October

Staying in Mangarakau on the Westhaven Inlet. Lodge booked for nights of Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th October inclusive. Stay for the nights you want.
Day paddles up Sandfly creek into Otuhie Lake, into the pristine native forest up the Wairoa river and poke around in the Westhaven Inlet.
Backpacker style accommodation.

Thursday Evening Sessions 17 October

Session theme: Boat control using Edging and Railing.

Specific focus: Understanding kayak hull characteristics and shape. Learning how to control your kayak, especially turning or keeping a straight course, without using the rudder. We’ll also look at keeping the kayak upright with a Low Brace, your go-to paddle stroke to prevent a capsize.

Taking advantage of the extra light from daylight savings, I'll be running a weekly trip on fridays after work
(Moved to Friday to avoid clash with Wednesday roll sessions at riverside pool)
Subject to flows, we will paddle in order of high flows/rain -> low flows/lack of rain: maitai, roding, wairoa (bridges), motueka
I will send updates the day before to say what river we will do either via email (if you have expressed interest) and/or the NKC WW Whatsapp group
