Nelson Canoe Club's Summer series of white water paddling is here.

Hopefully, accompanied by sunny days and warm water, which the Nelson and Tasman regions are renowned for at this time of year.

This series of 5 trips (weather, flows, and participant interest permitting) is an excellent opportunity to bolster your paddling skills and experience. Whether you recently completed a beginner's course or are getting back into the white water kayaking after a little time away. These classic Murchison trips will have something for everyone.

This is trip #3

It includes revisiting the Kawatiri (Buller River) Owen to Claybank run and extending this section through to the Doctor's Creek take out. Our second run will take in the gem of the Middle Matakitaki again.

You might be starting to feel a bit more familiar with these Murchison runs now. And that's great! As this will enable you to start pushing your paddling to another level as you explore the many features these runs have to offer. Bring your lunch to enjoy by the side of the river as we hit the height of summer. Stunning scenery is guaranteed! The Matakitaki dazzles with it's glistening azure waters, and the warmth of the clear emerald waters of the Kawatiri makes paddling these grade 2+ runs super fun at this time of year.

There are limited places available for recent beginner course participants or rusty paddlers to get some instruction on these trips.
A trip may split into an instructional group to support the development of club members and a peer group paddle (subject to numbers, interests, and the ability of participants).
These river runs always have enough water to make for some enjoyable paddling. Whether it's finding a wave to practice surfing on, a cross-current move, or an eddy line for tail stands. These classic runs always deliver. However, if flows allow and other runs are an option the trip may make changes to these planned river-runs subject to flows on the day.

You will need to complete a registration form for this trip. Please email Karen and she will send you a link for the registration form for trip #3.

Registrations close: Wednesday, February 24, 2021

You must make your own gear hire arrangements. Please arrange any gear hire from the club early, at least 2 weeks in advance, as this is the holiday season, and the gear officer may be on holiday at times!

Details of the trip logistics will be sent out 48hrs before the trip to those who have registered. (Last minute enquiries about joining the trip are welcome).
