A controversial $30 million white water stadium in South Auckland is back on the drawing board after passing its first hurdle at a council meeting.
Auckland Council voted to allow stage two of the development to go ahead. Regional Facilities Auckland will now follow the annual plan process for a full public consultation.
Branded “Wero” the proposed whitewater stadium will be located between the Event Centre and the Southern motorway, Manukau.
Proposed as New Zealand’s first artificial river and water course, it will also feature Maori cultural experiences and aims to be used by over 40,000 students a year. It aims to attract international events and provide New Zealand’s Olympic team with an accessible training facility.
